Death
records: search example
In researching my great-great grandfather Goligowski who was born in Poland, family lore stated that he was born in about 1830 and that his first wife, who was my great-great grandmother, died in Poland after having six children. My elderly great aunt stated that her mother had often talked about her stepmothers and what they had been like. There was no record of any of them to be found.

In locating his death certificate, I learned his date of birth and the name of his
last wife, including her maiden name. Because the informant was his son-in-law, in whose house my great-great grandfather had lived for at least 40 years, I felt pretty confident the information was true. |
